黑龙江东方学院是由孟新、尚鹤翔、周长源、刘式勤等老一辈教育工作者于1992年发起创办的普通本科高等学校，是黑龙江省改革开放后第一所民办高校。2023年6月，学校举办者变更为黑龙江省高等教育学会，实现公有民办性质转变。学校发展历程中，2003年升格为民办普通本科高校，2007年获学士学位授予权，2011年成为全国首批5所具有硕士专业学位研究生培养资格的民办院校之一，2020年获批黑龙江省特色应用型本科示范建设高校，2024年获省高等教育教学成果特等奖，2025年获评第三届全国文明校园。

East University of Heilongjiang was founded in 1992 by senior educators including Meng Xin, Shang Hexiang, Zhou Changyuan, and Liu Shiqin. It is the first private university established after China's reform and opening-up in Heilongjiang Province. In June 2023, the school's sponsor was changed to Heilongjiang Provincial Higher Education Association, transforming into a public-private university. Key milestones in its development include升格为 a private undergraduate university in 2003, obtaining bachelor's degree-granting authority in 2007, becoming one of the first five private institutions with master's degree programs in 2011, being approved as a model applied undergraduate university in Heilongjiang Province in 2020, winning the provincial first prize for higher education teaching achievements in 2024, and being awarded the title of National Civilized Campus in 2025.

学校坚持公益性、非营利办学原则，弘扬"立校为公、厚德树人"的东方精神，以培养高素质应用型人才为核心使命，累计为国家输送6万余名优秀毕业生。现设有46个本科专业、2个硕士专业学位授权点，全日制在校生13000余人，拥有农产品贮藏与加工省重点建设学科、4个省级一流本科专业建设点。学校深化产教融合，与飞鹤乳业、华为技术等企业共建现代产业学院，加入中德应用科技大学国际联盟，与21个国家及地区高校开展合作，同时作为全国首批老年大学建设试点单位，成立东方老年大学，探索特色老年教育模式。

Adhering to the principles of public welfare and non-profit education, the university promotes the "Oriental Spirit" of "Establishing the University for the Public, Cultivating Talents with Virtue". With cultivating high-quality applied talents as its core mission, it has graduated over 60,000 outstanding students. Currently, it offers 46 undergraduate programs and 2 master's degree programs, with over 13,000 full-time students. The university boasts a provincial key discipline in Agricultural Product Storage and Processing, and 4 provincial first-class undergraduate programs. It deepens industry-education integration by establishing modern industrial colleges with enterprises like Feihe Dairy and Huawei Technologies, joins the Sino-German University Alliance for Applied Sciences, and collaborates with 21 universities abroad. As one of the first national pilot universities for elderly education, it founded Oriental Senior University to explore distinctive elderly education models.
