The University of Bordeaux (Université de Bordeaux) is a leading public research university located in Bordeaux, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France. With roots dating back to 1441 when it was founded by a papal bull from Pope Eugene IV, it is one of Europe's oldest universities. In 2014, three major universities in the Bordeaux region (Université Bordeaux 1, 2, and 4) merged to form the new University of Bordeaux, making it one of France's largest comprehensive universities with over 100,000 students and 5,600 researchers.
